Kelcey McMurray wants Lafayette to play its best softball at the end of the season.
So after another disappointing loss in districts this year, it was right back to work for the Fighting Irish sophomore who pitched all but two of 139 possible innings this year.
"I'm trying to get better," said McMurray, the News-Press softball player of the year. "I've been working all winter, and I'm with my traveling team. Hopefully, that will make me a lot better."
It's hard to imagine McMurray improving that much considering her 2007 accomplishments.
McMurray recorded 197 strikeouts in 137 innings compared to 17 walks, while allowing only 83 hits and 25 earned runs. Her wins included a perfect game, and a 20-strikeout performance in a regulation seven-inning contest.
