Muellers Lockeroom is a sports bar and local hangout for Benedictine college students named after one of the school's football legends, Jamie Mueller.

After playing football for Benedictine, Mueller was drafted in 1987 by the Buffalo Bills. The connection, says manager Donna Williams, is that the head coach at Benedictine is one of the bar's owners. So you'll see plenty of photos and memorabilia of Mueller decorating the walls. It's a popular place to drink beer and watch sports, she says, but people also come for the food.

"We get lots of people, even from Kansas City, that come just for our wings," Williams says.

A News-Press reader agrees, and submitted the wings for a Best Bite.

"The sauce is a tangy mustard sauce that really tastes great - not too hot," the reader stated.

The wings aren't all that's getting raves. The Atchison Globe named Muellers Lockeroom in their 2007 "Best of the Best" as having the best bar and best hamburger in town. Williams says their Philly steak and cheese is very popular, too.

Muellers Lockeroom is open 11 a.m. to midnight Mondays; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
