Animal Control requests the death of two dogs
by Gretchen Mollenhour
Friday, August 22, 2008

After two dogs attacked two sisters Sunday afternoon Animal Control is requesting the destruction of both dogs. The two sisters, Cailyn and Cloe McAllister, were walking down the 1500 block of South 25th when two english bulldogs ran from their owners' yard and bit the two girls.

No one knows why the dogs attacked, but Kellie Veale and Brandon Wohlford who own, Mercedez and Brutus, said they are as surprised as anyone. Veale said she is sorry about the bites, but wants a second chance to prove the dogs are anything but vicious. She said without her dogs, she has nothing.

"Why do my dogs have to be killed? I mean, that's all I have," Veale said.

"I mean they sleep in my bed with me. I know those people said that their kids are their life, and my kids are like 20 and 23 so now those dogs are my life. I mean if they're gone, I might as well not be here."

Veale and Wohlford will appear in court on September 3rd when Judge John Boeh will determine whether or not Mercedez and Brutus should be destroyed. We tried to speak with the Mcallister family Friday, but our calls were not returned.

Hmmmm. I also own an English Bulldog, and the only thing she runs for is the door after she poops, and her food dish. I have also had a male previously and he didn't have much action either.

I hope these dogs are given another chance and the owners get a fence.

Lets hold judgement until we hear the whole story. I am not acusing the girls of any wrongdoing and I pray for their speedy recovery but I have witnessed so many times kids walking on sidewalks and along streets tormenting animals fenced or chained. You can't expect animals to just keep taking it. Most are smart enough to know when someone is being malicious and will react accordingly. I'm interesed in what the girls were doing.

I agree with Wild Ones. I too have seen it happen to close family of mine. I undrestand that it may not be fair to the animal. If it happens once, it can happen again. It was both dogs, pack mentality has to play a role. It's natural. I am sure they are great dogs. Too iffy to me though. I will let Judge Boeh make that call.

english bulldogs are not normally a particularly aggressive breed. the owners of these dogs did behave irresponsibly in not having them fenced or tied. i do feel for the owners, but, if you let your "kids" run in the street you are not going to have them for long......... what assurances are there that the veale/wohlfords will take steps to prevent this from happening again?
