Participants and spectators at the Bragging Rights Motorcycle and Car Show are reflected in the fender of Amber Batts 1952 Chevy pickup Sunday at Triumph Foods.

Triumph Foods played host to a different kind of hog Sunday.

The 2nd Annual Bragging Rights Motorcycle & Car Show attracted a mix of Harley-Davidsons, hot rods, tricked-out trucks and modern muscle cars.

All proceeds will go to the Second Harvest of Greater St. Joseph food bank and the Noyes Home for Children. Guests brought canned food items, and a booth sold raffle tickets for car batteries, Harley T-shirts and other items. Factor in concession sales and entry fees, and event organizer Sid Nelson thought he had a nice fundraiser on his hands.

“We raised a little over $400 last year, and we hope we can keep going with it,” Mr. Nelson said.

The show attracted a few dozen entries — about half of last year’s total. Competing car shows and a chance of rain may have kept some people away.

“The people we have here are loyal to us from last year,” Mr. Nelson said. “I think I just picked a bad weekend, but we’ll be back next year.”

Jesse Helton almost missed the show. He didn’t finish building the supercharged engine for his Chevrolet S-10 until early Sunday morning, just after midnight. Mr. Helton brought the same truck to last year’s show but wanted his new engine to be ready for this event.

“You’re never done messing with them,” he said. “You get one thing done and then you think of something else you want to do. Then you have to talk to the spouse and get that approved.”

Gary O’Dell braved the rain clouds in a 2008 Shelby Mustang GT convertible. Mr. O’Dell estimates that only 50 to 75 Shelby GT convertibles were made in 2008, making it a rare version of a popular muscle car. The car will soon become a lot faster. Mr. O’Dell plans to take it to Carroll Shelby’s shop in Dallas to install a supercharger that will bring him close to 600 horsepower.

“You have to take it to one of Shelby’ shops to keep it authentic. They won’t let you install it yourself,” Mr. O’Dell said.

Amber Betts brought a black KISS-themed 1952 Chevrolet pickup to the show. KISS decals, dolls and magnets gave the truck a look that made one of the band members take notice.

“I sent a picture in to Gene Simmons’ Web site and they posted it online, so that was cool,” Ms. Betts said.

But the truck is more than shiny paint and decals. Ms. Betts said she drives it to work occasionally and that the previous owner told her it could make a trip to California if needed.

“There’s no fun keeping it in the garage all the time,” Ms. Betts said. “I have to drive it.”
