The Missouri State High School Activities Association voted unanimously today to bring the state championship softball tournament to St. Joseph.
A unanimous vote from the board of directors brings the semifinals, championship and third-place to Heritage Park for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Columbia’s Rainbow Softball Complex previously hosted the event for the past 12 years.
MSHSAA sent out a bid proposal in mid-July, and Heritage Park was one of three sites to respond to the request. Columbia and Springfield also sent in bids, and Springfield will host the tournament in 2010 and 2011.
Three members of MSHSAA’s executive staff visited the site on Wednesday and voted during a special meeting of the board of directors today.
Heritage Park, opened in the summer of 2002, consists of five softball fields and will host a total of 16 games over two days in late October.
