Changes are coming to Missouri highways, but unless you drive an 18-wheeler you may not be too concerned. This year Missouri legislators passed a law that says on a three-lane divided highway, a truck weighing 48,000 pounds or more is banned from driving in the left-hand lane. With any interstate highway the inside lane is for passing only, not for driving.
Sergeant Sheldon Lyon said larger trucks in the far-left lane can cause problems for other drivers that are trying to pass another vehicle. Sergeant Lyon says keeping them out of the lane is safer for everyone on the roadways. Sgt. Lyon says Troop H does not have to worry about this new law since the nearest three lane divided highway is south of Platte City and the Buchanan County line.
