Local Red Cross volunteers and two semis full of supplies are heading south today for disaster preparation as tropical storm Gustav inches closer to the U.S.
Three volunteers left for Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Thursday afternoon and 12 more are expected to leave Friday or Saturday.
Karla Long of the Red Cross says the volunteers will be conducting a mobile feeding operation. They will use the red cross truck to deliver meals to homes in Mississippi and Louisiana. Long says they also anticipate thousands of people utilizing Red Cross shelters after the storm hits.

Forecasters are predicting Gustav could become a category 3 hurricane by the time it hits the U.S.
The storm comes in light of hurricane Katrina's three year anniversary Friday.
