Once again, organizers of Trails West! Music and Arts Festival are hitting it right on the button.
Trails West! admission buttons went on sale Tuesday for the 16th annual festival, which takes place Aug. 15 through 17 at Civic Center Park. The buttons can be purchased for $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. Like last year’s festival, buttons will grant attendees access to all three days of the festival while children under 12 will be admitted free with adult accompaniment.
The winning button design was from Amy Wagner of Macks Creek, Mo. The colorful graphic design didn’t have the visuals usually associated with Trails West!
“It was something very different from what we’ve done in the past. It doesn’t have a western theme, per se, and we like that,” said Teresa Fankhauser, executive director of the Allied Arts Council.
Lee Ann Davis, co-chair for Trails West!, helped select the winning design for similar reasons.
“We ideally wanted to get away from the Western aspect,” Ms. Davis said. “We’re so much more than that.”
The buttons will be available at 27 local businesses, including US Bank locations, Hy-Vee and the Allied Arts Council office at 118 S. Eighth St. Each button will include more than $100 worth of coupons from 20 local businesses and a pair of entry forms for raffle prizes, including backstage passes for the festival’s headliners.
According to Christy Barber, Trails West! volunteer marketing chairwoman, even more businesses have offered to sell buttons than last year. For a complete list of button locations, go to www.trailswest.org.

Gee! Whats up with all the anti western and cow town sentiment in St Joe? It is what it is! Next you will want to change the name of the festival. Lets see. Fruit Cake festival ought to be a bigger draw than Trails West.
