New bio-diesel plant to produce 15 million gallons per year

A new bio-diesel manufacturing plant breaks ground bringing more jobs to St. Joseph.

Terra Bioenergy, LLC broke ground Wednesday morning. The plant, off Stockyards Expressway, has been under development for more than a year and has nearly 100 investors. Company officials are going to hire between 25 to 30 employees.

David Holcombe, Terra's CEO, says interviews are going to begin this September.

Holcombe says the 25 million dollar facility is going to produce millions of bio-diesel fuel a year. He told St. Joe Now, "the project is designed to for approximately 15 million gallons per year of bio-diesel fuel, expandable as the economy will hopefully allow to 30 million gallons per year and our feedstock is predominately animal fat with a smaller amount of soy."
