Kansas City blues guitarist Tommy Andrews was playing ‘80s covers and classic rock before he knocked his head on a door in 2002, an injury that caused the musician to lose all his musical tonality. “I had muscle memory, but I couldn’t hear the note differences,” Andrews says. “I couldn’t hear music anymore, basically.” But Andrews re-learned his instrument and has been fronting the Tommy Andrews Band for two years, combining aggressive blues with an equally exhilarating live show where the guitarist sometimes leaves the stage all together. “A lot of people associate the blues with this laid-back old man,” Andrews says. “We try to get as much energy out through the music as much as possible.” The Tommy Andrews Blues Band performs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight at Magoon’s. Cover is $5.
