Tuesday, July 22, 2008

The Missouri State Water Patrol identifies a man who drowned in the NOdaway River Monday evening.

19 year old Eli Stiens of Skidmore, Missouri was the victim. According to the incident report obtained by Saint Joe Now, Stiens was camping on a sandbar with some friends when he decided to go swimming. The report says he was about 25 feet from the sandbar and began having trouble.

Stiens' friends reportedly tried to help him, but had to stop because he was pulling them under. Andrew County officials say Stiens may have fallen victim to swift currents in the river.
