Firefox attemps to set world record today
by Ricky Gipson
Monday, June 16, 2008

Tomorrow morning, Mozilla is planning to set a new world record with the latest version of their internet browser, Firefox. They want you to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours.

Firefox v3.0 has been in the works for awhile now, and Mozilla is finally ready to release its final version of Firefox on the world.

With a growing amount of internet applications such as Facebook, Gmail, Myspace, etc. requiring a lot more bandwidth than has ever been used before, Firefox has built their latest version to breeze through these kind of websites with ease.

They have boasted that it is the fastest browser ever created. Their website claims, "with more than 15,000 improvements, Firefox 3 is faster, safer and smarter than before." Easily beating out its competitors Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera to name a few.

I've been testing the development browser for about a month now, and I will be the first to tell you that there is a noticeable difference when browsing the web. Firefox is clean, easy and extremely fast. There are a ton of new features added and they have set the bar even higher for other browsers to follow.

If you haven't made Firefox your primary browser yet or you've been using Firefox for years, you should definitely try out Firefox v3. I promise you will not be disappointed in your decision.

The only downside to Firefox's new version is, of course, all the add-ons that won't work for a few weeks while all their developers scramble to make them compatible with v3.

Half of what's great about Firefox is all the incredibly useful, fun, and customisable add-ons it has, making the use of everything from gmail to del.icio.us to LiveJournal that much easier. While I'm as excited as the next dedicated Firefox user for the latest and greatest version, I think I'll be waiting just a little while longer to upgrade. My browsing experience would be endlessly frustrating if I didn't have my add-ons.

Agreed, that was my biggest frustration with the beta versions of v3 that were released. It usually only took a couple of days for most of the major add-ons to be upgraded. Usually themes took the longest, but it never took more than a couple of weeks.

Love Firefox - will never go back to IE! Safari works well on my mac but doesn't offer the same security...
