Is it art, or taking advantage of a teen star?

The entire world, it seems, has something to say about Miley Cyrus and her recent ‘Vanity Fair’ photo shoot.

Many are saying that the photos are too sexy and racy for a 15-year-old that’s a role model to millions of children as the star of Disney’s ‘Hannah Montana.’

Miley, presumably under pressure from Disney, issued an apology for the photos, saying “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about,” according to the Associated Press.

While there are plenty of people calling for Miley’s head, or at least having her booted from her own show, many are defending her. Everyone from Tyra Banks to Rosie O’Donnell to the girls from MTV’s ‘The Hills’ are saying the photos are beautiful and tasteful and everyone should just leave the poor girl alone.

More disturbing, some say, are the pictures of her lying on her dad’s lap, like his teenaged lover.

I’m a bit torn on the issue. Honestly, I don't think the pictures are that bad, they certanly aren’t ‘Playboy’ material. But they definitely are sexy, and give off the illusion of sex. And while she may be a tween superstar, she is only 15.

I think I’m more bothered by the home pictures of her where she’s showing off her bra or wearing nothing but underwear and a skimpy tank top. Because that’s not her trying to pose for a camera as a character, it’s her at home, “just being Miley.”

I think that many people are waiting for the opportunity to say that Miley is a fake. She's a fraud. There is no way in today's pop culture that she could possibly be as innocent as she says she is. A clean, straight-laced teenager? Does this exist? Of course, she's staring you in the face and the world can't wait for a bit of drama or any excuse to hang her out to dry. Expose any single fault they can find. She's a young girl - leave her alone!!! If the media would give any of these young pop stars a moment of privacy, they may even grow up to be somewhat normal!
