Save-A-Lot to close Thursday

Save-A-Lot is closing its grocery store in St. Joseph.

The store is located at 1325 S. Belt Highway, in the shopping center near Westlake Ace Hardware.

Save-A-Lot’s last day is Thursday, May 15, according to an employee at the store.

The grocery chain operates several stores in Kansas City. Unsold merchandise is expected to be shipped to those stores.

Save-A-Lot is headquartered in St. Louis and operates more than 1,150 stores in 42 states. It is a subsidiary of Supervalu Inc.

Wonder why they closed. It's a shame because we would always run there for milk or eggs or some emergency items. It was closer than running all the way to Hy-Vee or Wal-Greens, etc. Bummer.
