2 men charged in Maryville killing set for Sept. trials
MARYVILLE, Mo. | A Nodaway County man facing a second-degree murder charge is scheduled for a jury trial later this year.
Erik B. Romig, 27, was charged in the Nov. 16 death of 46-year-old Donald Ray Gardner Jr. in Maryville. Prosecutors said Mr. Romig and Nicholas A. Rosencrans, 22, were responsible for killing Mr. Gardner with a blow to the head during an argument at Mr. Romig’s residence.
Circuit Judge Roger Prokes on Monday set the trial for Sept. 9 through 12.
Meanwhile, a trial for Mr. Rosencrans is set for the same four days before Judge Randall Jackson in Buchanan County Circuit Court.
Both men originally were joined in the same case, which eventually was severed in April. A change of venue for Mr. Rosencrans was granted that month.
Both men remain in custody in lieu of $250,000 bond apiece.
