MO Republicans welcome Obama with 'liberal' tidings
by Alyson E. Raletz
Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama will look to Missouri on the evening of his West Virginia primary for support in his presidential bid.

His 5 p.m. scheduled visit today to a Cape Girardeau clothing manufacturing plant is one of his many planned stops in swing states, pitting the candidate against Republican opponent John McCain, not the Democratic primary challenger, Sen. Hillary Clinton.

The economic town-hall meeting is closed to the public, according to the “Southeast Missourian.”

But prominent Republicans chimed in this morning during a conference call to discuss the Illinois senator’s visit to Missouri.

Here’s the link to listen to party chairman Doug Russell, Lt. Governor Peter Kinder and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, of Cape Girardeau, expound on the Democrat’s chances in Missouri.

None of the comments are surprising.

Early in the call, Mr. Russell refers to the senator as a “tax-raising liberal.”

“I do not believe Southeast Missourians … are going to be persuaded by the appeal,” Mr. Kinder adds. “…He is the hardest left candidate ever nominated if he wins this nomination, and it looks like he will.”
