St. Joseph wants to attract attention in Kansas City.
On Thursday, Missouri Western State University and other entities will host a reception for the American Chemical Society, Kansas City Section.
Science programs at Missouri Western will be the focus of the event, said Dr. Gary Clapp, president of the Institute for Industrial and Applied Life Sciences at Western. The event will highlight the new master’s of applied science program and the Remington Hall project to improve the math and science building.
Information on the Christopher S. “Kit” Bond Science and Technology Incubator now under construction on Western’s campus will be presented. St. Joseph’s animal health industry also will be featured at the reception.
Dr. Clapp said the institute isn’t looking to recruit businesses from Kansas City, but he wants businesses and scientists to know what sort of opportunities are available in St. Joseph.
Other sponsors of the reception are the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce, Heartland Health and Aquila.
The reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the law offices of Lathrop and Gage, 2345 Grand Blvd. It is free to attend. Reservations should be made by contacting Mary Brown at the Chamber, 364-4102 or brown@saintjoseph.com.
