Never too late

Voter ID is a good idea. It protects everybody’s vote. They’ve had thousands of people voting who were dead. How can that be? And it seems that they’re all for the Democratic Party. We need the voter ID. It makes sense.

Prove it

This is in regard to “Copy cat” in Thursday’s paper. I would like to have that individual prove that Iran did not have a supply of weapons into Iraq. There have been numerous documentation where serial numbers, etc., and types of remaining fragments of pieces that have been blown up in Iraq that they can trace back to Iran. I think this is another attempt to discredit poor Bush and Cheney about lying and lying and lying.

Hat in hand

I heard on the evening news that President Bush went over to Saudi Arabia and asked his good friend over there to drop the price of gas. He’s asked him to do it twice and he wouldn’t do it. Do you really think that President Bush went over to ask him to do that? I mean, truthfully, do you think he really asked his good friend to produce more gas so the price of gas would come down when he’s an oil man and making all this money? The price of gas doesn’t hurt them at all.

Morning fuel

All we hear about is the price of gas. How about the price of a cup of coffee? Two dollars and 10 cents at a popular restaurant. I would like to hear back from restaurant owners why a cup of coffee is so expensive.

Both sides

This is in regard to an article in Friday’s paper, “California high court overturns the ban on gay marriage.” All I’ve got to say is leave it to the liberal AP press to report on only part of the article. They should also report that the people are rallying in California now to pass a state constitutional amendment like we have in Missouri defining marriage between a man and a woman.

Editor’s note: That story is on this very page.

Poverty nation

I just wanted to comment on what a great country we live in where almost every convenience store or small business you go into has a jar or cup of some sort on the counter from someone trying to collect a little bit of money to pay for possibly some life-saving medical care. The particularly sad ones are the parents who are out there begging so that the children may have a chance to live a little bit longer. A lot of these people aren’t necessarily indigent. A lot of them have the insurance but the insurance won’t pay or the insurance has ran out. They had jobs but now they can’t work anymore because they are sick. And I just think what a great country we live in.

Where were they?

I am curious to see why the school district didn’t have administrators attend the meeting about the new apartments by Skaith School. I feel like we’ve been getting jerked around by this current administration long enough and that’s another example. I think these ceremonial, figurehead, elitists are having visions and delusions that are out of touch with the taxpayers of St. Joe.

I stand behind my comment from yesterday.
To gr8fan.....not trying to sway your opinion of Chavez, or anyone else for that matter. Just pointing out that for the past few years there are some Americans that are pretty darn grateful to Chavez. It's pretty sad when America won't help Americans but the Government will spend oodles of money to help other countries. As for the oil....it's a speculative market...and the stockholders are speculating that we will pay whatever it takes to fill our cars....we may whine about it...but we will pay. While we are whining and paying, the government will continue to throw our tax dollars to the oil companies and car manufacturers to "finance their finding alternatives to this crisis". Kind of like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. I find it a little suspicious when it's announced that stockholders in the oil companies are showing record profits. It's not just about the oil...it's all about $$$$ and how the rich can stay rich and us working folks can foot the bill. I could go on, but I won't....because it won't change a thing.....this has turned into such a ME society, that most people can't see past their nose.

Whetta2:

Two questions:

1. Why shouldn’t the rich stay rich…they’ve worked hard to earn it. Maybe not through manual labor – they work smart, not hard. What do you expect them to do…give it to you? Can you say “socialist”?

2. Whose fault is it you’re a “working folk”?

"the rich can stay rich and us working folks can foot the bill."

Does that mean that the "rich" DON'T work? I always thought prosperity came through effort, education and maybe a bit more than a 40-hour week.

By the way, I am by no means wealthy or rich. I maintain a budget and get by by doing the best I can. It's amusing how "have nots" want to take, take, take, claiming it is their RIGHT to receive governmental handouts. The cost of "social programs" is staggering. Maybe it is time for the government to do some budgeting of its own and cut some of these programs and force people to take more responsibility in their lives. Yes, there are those who need help. It is also true there are many many opportunists out there.
