Moila’s Leland to take manager job at SJCC
by Clinton Thomas
Tuesday, May 20, 2008

For the second time in six months, a new general manager will take over at St. Joseph Country Club.

If Ken Leland’s track record is any indication, he will stick around longer than his predecessor.

Mr. Leland has worked for Moila Country Club for more than 20 years. He has been the club’s golf professional since 1987, took charge of country club operations in 2001 and became Moila’s general manager in October of 2007.

When asked about the new job at St. Joseph Country Club, Mr. Leland talked about the importance of finishing his job at Moila first.

“I have my obligations at Moila until June 8, and then I’ll move to the Country Club after that, and I’ll be there to stay,” Mr. Leland said.

Because St. Joseph’s golf community is so tightly knit, Mr. Leland already knows many of the people he will work with when he switches courses.

“I’ve seen golfers over the years that have come from Fairview to Moila, then for whatever reason some of them move on to the Country Club,” Mr. Leland said. “It’s a natural progression for a lot of the golfers in this community.”

J.R. Rotarius from Kansas City started his brief tenure as St. Joseph Country Club’s general manager on Jan. 1 but left April 1 after the club’s board of directors decided to change directions.
