Pick ’em blog: Week 5 review, Week 6 picks
by Ross Martin
Wednesday, October 1, 2008

You win some, you lose some in the world of high school pick 'em.

Last week, Andy and I won eight each and lost two, which for me is good enough to retain my healthy five-game lead on my co-worker. This could be a week with some shuffle to it. There are many intriguing matchups out there, and by my count, six of this week's 10 games are nothing more than a coin flip.

Andy might count that differently, but based on his results thus far, he's probably wrong.

The top of the pick 'em list is Chillicothe at Maryville. Wow.

Where do you even begin in this matchup that harkens back to the MEC glory days for both schools. One poster on mosports.com might have said it best when he mentioned that both could be state champions this year.

Not often you get a regular-season clash like that, and trying to pick a winner? Well, flip a coin and hope luck is with you.

On to the picks:

Chillicothe (5-0) at Maryville (5-0) — Andy: Maryville; Ross: Chilli.

Raytown South (5-0) at Fort Osage (3-2) — Andy: Raytown South; Ross: Fort Osage (let's further muddy the Class 5 rankings).

South Holt (4-1) at Worth County (4-1) — Andy: South Holt; Ross: South Holt.

St. Joseph Benton (3-2) at Savannah (5-0) — Andy: Savannah; Ross: Benton.

Oak Park (4-1) at North Kansas City (1-4) — Andy: Oak Park; Ross: Oak Park.

Hickman Mills (1-4) at Staley (3-2) — Andy: Staley; Ross: Staley.

Archie (4-1) at Wellington Napoleon (3-2) — Andy: Archie; Ross: Archie

Knob Noster (3-2) at Richmond (1-4) — Andy: Richmond; Ross: Richmond.

East Buchanan (3-2) at Lawson (4-1) — Andy: Lawson; Ross: Lawson.

Cameron (0-5) at St. Joseph Lafayette (1-4) — Andy: Cameron; Ross: Cameron.

Year-to-date standings (after Week 5)

Ross 36-14, Andy 31-19
