The city of Trenton will host its 24th annual Missouri Day Festival the weekend of Oct. 18 and 19.
More than 13,000 visitors are drawn to the city for a band festival, craft village, flea markets and other events on the North Central Missouri Fairgrounds.
More than 40 high school bands will participate in the Saturday Missouri Day Marching Festival, which enters its 12th year.
Other attractions include a parade, food vendors, petting zoo, quilt show, kids’ games, and tours of historic Trenton.
A community church service, car show and baby show round out the festival on Sunday.
Arthur M. Hyde, a former Missouri governor who hailed from Trenton, proclaimed Oct. 18 as Missouri Day.
More than 200 vendors are expected at the festival.

Habitat to select family
Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County is making preparations for its 2009 home project. The first stop in the process is selecting a partner family that will help construct and purchase the home.
Habitat’s Family Selection Committee will meet with interested applicants Saturday. An information meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at First and Main streets in Maryville, Mo.
Anyone unable to attend may leave a message with Habitat at (660) 582-2530 as soon as possible.
Habitat of Nodaway County has built homes for partner families now residing in Hopkins, Burlington Junction, Skidmore, Pickering and Maryville.
Big Lake goes wireless
Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) connections are now available at Big Lake State Park near Craig at no cost, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Wi-Fi access is available at the park store, including the cafe and recreation center. Guests must provide their own computers.
The department is adding Wi-Fi to enhance customer service and to meet requests of state park users to stay connected. Other parks will be added in the future.
