False accusations

I am responding to John Guehlstorff’s letter in Monday’s News-Press. His letter is, word for word, a copy of a false e-mail that has been circulating about Barack Obama. Check it out at snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/fanniemae.asp.

None of the men mentioned in Mr. Guehlstorff’s letter are presently affiliated with the Obama campaign, much less in charge. Both the News-Press and Mr. Guehlstorff should verify claims before printing them.

Mike Edwards, St. Joseph

Editor’s note: Mr. Guehlstorff acknowledged Monday he copied the information in his letter from an Internet source and cannot independently verify its credibility. The News-Press letters forum is reserved for original opinions offered by local and area residents. We regret this letter was published in violation of our policy.

Far from ‘disgraceful’

Kay Barnes says “a dismal record, a disgraceful campaign,” or something to that effect, in reference to Congressman Sam Graves. I know Sam Graves personally, and that’s not the Sam Graves I know. For instance, I know Sam Graves as an Eagle Scout, as someone who has played taps at many veterans’ funerals, and as a congressman who helped me get my medals for serving my country in the military for 25 years. I am part Native American, a born-again Christian, a Boy Scout and leader since 1962, and I believe that Sam Graves is the best candidate for the 6th Congressional District.

In closing, I believe in our nation as a country with a “government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” and a country blessed by God. God promises that “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Lloyd Lapore Jr., Kansas City, Mo.

An important distinction

It’s important to draw one critical comparison between Congressman Sam Graves and his opponent, who would likely prefer we not draw attention to this distinction. Congressman Sam Graves knows this community, Kay Barnes does not.

Sam Graves is a lifelong Missouri resident. Kay Barnes is not. Graves and his wife have raised their children in Northwest Missouri. Barnes has not. Graves is a small businessman and farmer who understands firsthand the needs of our agricultural community. Barnes does not.

I intentionally am leaving out these candidates’ positions on political issues such as amnesty, the economy and abortion. Instead, I encourage you to consider for yourself those issues and assess which of these candidates is most likely to share your position on concerns relating to the economy, national security and small business that are so vitally important to our community. I have run through this exercise myself several times, and repeatedly I arrive at the same conclusion — I will be voting for Sam Graves.

Rachel Carroll, St. Joseph

Hey Stealth,
Learn to read. The news-press acknowledged that it was a mistake and they regret publishing it. What more ya want? Once again, Mr. Edwards needs to read his own Snopes propaganda, which states specifically that two of the men, even though they are not the heads, are involved in OBlunder's campaign. His associations show how poor his judgment is, which would put him right in line for liberal support.

Awesome article, I hope this comes up at the debate this evening, I am sure Obama won't let this one go. Why, because McCain is a maverick and wants to change everything that's been going on in Washington for the last 8 years........B.S.!!

WOW, McCain got donations from the head of the republican party? Oh dear God, what is this world coming to? What a stupid argument! At least it is American money! Check this one out if you want to complain about campaign contributions--

Now that is slime at its best! And trying to hide it with phoney symbols makes him even worst!

but wait, remember, he's a maverick, yet he takes money from them? he's not up bush's tuchas, but he can take his money? that don't make no sense.

gr8tfan did you even read your own article? most of those complaints came from conservative groups and were unfounded.

a little off topic, but interesting nonetheless is this little tidbit about some really nice republican folks and their civilized behavior at a recent rally for mcsame/failin...

"...Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.)

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience

notsomuch,
You dare to bag on something because it was conservatives bringing the complaints out? Your liberal media (such as the Washington Post) spews out so much bunk everytime Palin or McCain say or do anything, that that makes you the biggest hypocrite on earth! Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
