GOP houses
I am calling in about the article in Monday’s paper “California sisters fulfill a dream.” They bought a house in 2000 and fixed it up and now in 2008 they have eight properties. This would not have been possible if the Democrats were in office. You people better wake up.

Good old days
This is from an elderly lady who remembers when we all pulled together during World War II. We would all work together saving string, foil and just whatever it took. Our food was rationed and our gas was rationed. And we all learned to get along on a lot, lot less. And wouldn’t it be good if we could hear what good is going on in our great America?
***
Brave new world
I was just watching Sarah Palin do her campaign on the news. And she was talking about how people need to stop looking to the past and look toward the future. And I was just wondering why she and McCain don’t practice what they preach. That’s all they do, is look to the past. And I was just wondering if everyone else notices how they contradict themselves.

Enjoy the silence
In the movie “Liar Liar,” Jim Carrey had to speak the truth. As a voter, I would like for somebody to make a wish and for it to be granted that both political candidates Obama and McCain would have to speak the truth and only the truth from now to election day. Wouldn’t that be interesting?

Helping hands
Upon reading the paper this morning, I was looking at the article about this lady, Debbie Pullen, who is not able to receive physical therapy. And I was saying, wouldn’t it be wonderful if a Christian therapist or someone would walk in and start giving her therapy so she can get back on her feet? I believe in these times that we’re going to have to pull together and help each other. God bless anyone who does that.

Lapel flap
This is regarding “Does the pin make the man?” Of course it doesn’t, but you know with McCain and Charlie Gibson, maybe sometimes they don’t have it on, but have you ever heard them turn it completely down? And the national anthem to turn away, you never see that. I guess the other guy did finally put his on after so many people handed it to him and insisted that it wasn’t good to turn it down and refuse to wear it. There’s a lot of difference between somebody refusing to wear the American pin and somebody who doesn’t wear it all of the time.
Enjoy the Silence:
Here is a quote from Obama from this weekend when he was answering questions from a plumber.
"It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too, my attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
The “spread the wealth around” statement should leave no doubt that Obama is a socialist and will make every effort to lead America down that path.

Posted by Orliandor on October 14, 2008 at 7:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)How did socialism get such a bad rap? Until you have lived in one, I wouldn't criticize.

I lived in Germany for eight years, worked in three other European countries, lived/worked in six countries in West Africa, lived/worked in three countries in Central America, lived/worked in one country in South America, lived/worked on several islands/countries in the Caribbean.
I’ve also visited every country in Western Europe – except Ireland and Scotland, some numerous times. I also visited three countries in Eastern Europe (including East Germany several times when there was an East Germany). I’ve been to Canada and Mexico several times each & visited other islands/countries in the Caribbean.
Since each of the above countries is either Socialist or Communist, I think I’m qualified to criticize Socialism.

Great post, I cannot understand how so many people can be fooled into thinking that this is a good thing. He wants to take money from those who work hard and earn what they have and "spread it around" by giving it to people who refuse to work and pay their own way through life. It is baffling!

Posted by MichaelH on October 14, 2008 at 7:56 a.m. (Suggest removal)The thing with socialism is, people think it's either all or nothing.
We CAN adopt socialist practices in certain areas without being a socialist state.
Would you rather live in a police state? Tell me that's not happening and I'll call you a liar. Hell, people are here actually utter the words, "too much law enforcement is never enough." Maybe those folks should go visit China or North Korea.
Socialist medicine isn't a bad thing. Typical of Americans it's either black or white when there is a whole gray area not being explored.
Yeah, Eurpeans have it bad. Free healthcare, free nanny services when you have a child, multiple weeks off each year for vacation. On top of it all they can and do retire at an age conducive to enjoying it.
Ewww... I don't want that.

I polled my associates in the New World Order and they are 95% in favor of Socialism.
Posted by dalearch on October 14, 2008 at 8:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)Rax:
I think they can be fooled so easily because most of them feel they are “victims” and that they are “owed” something. They are jealous of people who are successful in life – but they don’t have enough gumption to do something for themselves. They think that the successful people are just “lucky” – they can’t seem to comprehend that successful people are successful because they work hard and earn it.
Posted by wr49tm on October 14, 2008 at 8:29 a.m. (Suggest removal)MichaelH - NOTHING comes without a price. Just ask the thousands of Canadians who come to the U.S. for healthcare to get away from the "free" services provided in their country.
Posted by MichaelH on October 14, 2008 at 8:38 a.m. (Suggest removal)Yeah I'm jealous that I have a good life and wish my elected government would step-in in the one place necessary and provide seriously cost-effective health care for it's people.
Adequate, affordable health care
Protective services
Infrastructure for capital growth
Those are the 3 things a government should do for it's people. Not all this other crap each of your candidates bicker over.
I find it humorous you all have such disdain for socialist practices, yet I bet each and every one of you wanted that bailout so bad you couldn't hardly wait.
What the hell do you think that was/is/will be?
Geez...
Posted by m_chuzzlewit on October 14, 2008 at 8:44 a.m. (Suggest removal)Socialism
I dug out my copy of the U. S. Constitution and looked for:
Adequate, affordable health care
Protective services
Infrastructure for capital growth
Geez...Michael, I can't find it in there.

No society is purely capitalist, socialist, or communist. They “lean” one way or another.
I can say from experience that socialized medicine is not nearly as good as our system. I’ve been in the hospital in the US, Germany, England & Ghana, West Africa.
Ask the Canadians what they think of Socialized medicine.
Police state? Give me a break. Travel to some of the countries I’ve been to if you want to see a police state. On my first trip to Lagos, Nigeria I went through five checkpoints at gunpoint each time just between the airport and my hotel.
Surely you’re not naïve enough to believe that the “free healthcare” and “free nanny services” are actually “free” are you? Who do you think pays for these services and for “multiple weeks off each year for vacation”? There is no Santa Claus.
As for the “retire at an age conducive to enjoying it” - if you enjoy working in your yard or garden all day since that’s all you can afford to do – it’s great.
Posted by gr8fan on October 14, 2008 at 9:27 a.m. (Suggest removal)Nice posts dalearch. I know some people have some bad breaks in life, but most people create their own situations through education, hard work and/or risk taking. Unless you have Obama as president. Taking from those who have taken the risks and worked hard to get where they are, and giving their earnings to those who want to sit around and do little or nothing. They can then whine about how awful the USA is and draw from the socialistic practices of Obama. What no one is saying on top of all of this, is that savior Obama, is implementing new tax codes that will allow over 63 million people to pay no taxes and still get a refund at the end of the year! That is so ridiculous. Go acorn! Get all your Freddie Johnson's out there submitting their 73 voter registration forms for free cigs and dollar bills. Figure it out people! Obama is not what America is about!

Posted by dalearch on October 14, 2008 at 10:27 a.m. (Suggest removal)i agree with what you are saying. all McCain and Palin ever say is "check the records".... well, i did check the records, and it's not that impressive. what's McCain going to do for the future of our country? maybe he will check the records and see how he voted a few years ago on a similar issue whenever something does come up. although, he flip-flops on most everything, so maybe he has a magic 8-ball to decide things for him.
Everyone needs to see this video. Copy and paste if you have to.

Obama advisor steps down due to Hamas contacts.
WASHINGTON (AFP) — An advisor to Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama has left the campaign after a British newspaper asked him about meetings with the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, media reports said Friday.
Robert Malley, who works for the International Crisis Group, said he served as an "informal" Middle East advisor to Obama and told NBC News he decided to step down after the Times of London inquired about his contacts with Hamas.
Let's see if I understand this correctly: Robert Malley, who is sympathetic to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, was serving as a Middle East advisor to Obama. Hummmm, what does that tell you?
Posted by Rax on October 14, 2008 at 4:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)MichaelH,
I assure you, the United States is nowhere near a police state. Judging from your comments, it is unlikely that you have ever been overseas. Most countries that I have been to have armed soldiers/police at the airports, bus and train stations and even walking the streets. This has not just been a recent thing either, I saw it in the early 80's and also as recently as earlier this year. There is no second chance either. If a soldier or cop in one of these countries tells you to do something, you do it.
