With the wet and unseasonably cool days we have had lately, most people are hoping for the warmth of sunlight. But others are welcoming the cool, damp days. Rain this time of year, is great for produce farmers. The wet weather gives the produce a bigger size and the colder temperatures give them more color.
Schweizer Orchards co-owner Steve Schweizer said the only time the rain affects them negatively is when it postpones picking the fruits and vegetables. Schweizer said this has been a marvelous growing season, only getting rain when they need it most is keeping the cost of irrigation down. Schweizer said they will continue picking vegetables until they receive their first frost.
Next they are gearing up for pumpkin pickin' season, with hay-rides and bon-fires on the weekends.
