Ron White booked for second show

Tickets to see a “Blue Collar Comedy Tour” comedian at the Missouri Theater next month were gone before you could say “tater salad.”

Don’t worry, a second helping now is available.

Ron White’s Oct. 23 performance sold out in two hours on Aug. 22, leaving a lot of the comic’s fans disappointed and hoping that maybe, just maybe, he’d decide to put on a second show in St. Joseph.

Well, they got their wish, thanks to Mother Nature.

After his Sept. 26 show in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was canceled because of flood damage, “that opened up another night on his schedule, so I just grabbed it,” said Jeff Haney, business manager of Robidoux Resident Theatre, which is organizing Mr. White’s upcoming performances here.

Mr. White will perform a second night at the Missouri Theater on Oct. 22. About 700 tickets for the show already have sold since going on sale at the beginning of the week. RRT posted information about the second show on the organization’s Web site to avoid the lines-outside-the-office craziness that occurred during sales for Mr. White’s initial performance.

“I just didn’t want an angry mob or anxious mob,” Mr. Haney said. “I just wanted to control that frantic behavior that is occurring.”

One of many people who was unable to grab one of those first tickets was Dewie Ellison, a St. Joseph resident and fan for seven years. When she called to find out the show was sold-out, she, like many others, was put on a waiting list to be one of the first to get tickets if he decided to do a second show. She didn’t have much faith in it — until she got a call Thursday with her tickets.

“I figured I was just screwed,” Ms. Ellison said. “They told me he was doing a second show and I did my happy dance.”

About 500 tickets remained Thursday for the Oct. 22 performance, with prices ranging from $28 to $63. Tickets are on sale at the Robidoux Resident Theatre box office at 126 S. Eighth St., or call 232-1778 or visit www.rrtstjoe.org.
