Nolan Froese has surprised his father with his dedication to the sport of cycling.
It was a little over three years ago when Sunday’s St. Joseph Road Race winner and a friend, Jan Bradford-Watts, now 17, came to the Ethan Froese with the request to help them get started.
“They said, 'Mr. Froese, we don’t want to play soccer; we don’t want to play basketball; we don’t want to play football.’”
The elder Froese agreed to buy them each a bicycle on the condition that they stay with the sport for at least a year.
“In my mind, I thought they’d say they couldn’t ride 20 hours a week, that the’ve got to chase girls and have fun,” the elder Froese said. “But they both really have stuck to it and surprised me.”
