It's Your Call, September 8, 2008

What’s she afraid of?

I would like to respond to “Thin Skinned” in It’s Your Call Saturday morning. Obama has answered every question put to him for months and months, and Sarah Palin’s skin is so thin they won’t even let the press ask her a single question. What are they afraid of?

***

Here in the

real world

We are senior citizens, and we live in St. Joseph. We pay $200 a year in school taxes, and I just heard Barack Obama on television and all he could talk about was giving the school teachers a raise. Raise this, raise that and give them a better quality of education. Better this, better that. It sounds to me like it’s nothing but tax raises if he gets elected, and he was condemning the Republican Party for their convention going on and McCain doesn’t have a plan. Well, if McCain had a plan, it wouldn’t be anything we couldn’t afford. So we had better get in the real world and think about this thing before we vote.

***

Come back, Ross

Like many Americans, I’m sure that we just cannot wait until November, when the elections will be over. It seems like every other commercial on TV is political. Personally, I think it is a shame that Ross Perot is opposed to running for office this year, because if he was, he might win.

***

A perfect

example

It is easy to see why Republicans like Gov. Palin. She is smug, self-satisfied, full of herself, lacking in compassion, ruthless and contemptuous of her opponents, even when her opponents are far more accomplished than she is. In other words, Mrs. Palin is the perfect example of a Republican.

***

Just trying

to survive

I have had my gas and food prices increase, and now I read on the front page of the newspaper Saturday that KCP&L is requesting a better quality air increase. How about a better quality of life increase? I need consumer costs to decrease and I need them now just to make it through the month, and that, my friends, is called survival in a weak economy.

***

The truth

about eBay

John McCain and Sarah Palin said that Palin, when she was governor of Alaska, sold an airplane that the governor of Alaska before her had, that she sold this on eBay for a big profit. Truth of the matter is, she did not sell this on eBay. She sold it to a Republican contributor who knew her and the rest of the Republican Party, and she sold it for a loss. They are not telling the truth about this, and they should be brought forward.

The truth
about eBay:: She said she "put it on E Bay" and she did .Twice. SHE never said she sold it on e bay. She ended up selling it through a broker. The Gov. before her paid to much for it to begin with, using tax payers money, and then he used it numerous times. Do you sell a car for the price you bought it for after you drive it all over the place and own it a while? I think not. At least she gave the money back to the tax payers.2.1 mil is better than her using it at tax payers expense.. The former Gov. paid 2.6 mil.when he bought it.

momswisher - However, McCain did, in fact, claim on Friday in a speech that Palin DID sell the plane on eBay for a profit. Here is a quote from the Washington Post - "But that hasn't stopped Palin, or John McCain, from implying -- and, on Friday, claiming outright -- that Palin did sell the jet on the Internet." "You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay -- and made a profit!" McCain declared in Wisconsin at a campaign stop on Friday."

Sold it on eBay, put it for sale on eEbay, tried to sell it on eBay. Geeze is that the most petty thing you have to latch on to about Sarah Palin?
The important issue is that she saw waste in government and did something about it. She tried to sell it on eBay and couldn't get a qualified bid, so the plane was sold several months later, ridding the state of a luxury item. See article

I think it was actually BETTER that the state didn't sell the plane on eBay. Being an eBay veteran myself, I can't imagine what the sales commissions would be to them on a $2+ million dollar plane! So I guess it could be said she did the state a favor and saved them even MORE money.

Now we're talking of not being honest, one could make a case about the sweet deal that Obama received on his $1.65 million dollar mansion financing that he parlayed with the convicted felon, Syrian born Slum Lord, Tony Rezko.

So quit with the petty BS and mud slinging and start talking about the issues.
Geeeeze

This isn't petty BS or mudslinging. It goes directly to the character of McCain/Palin. Typical spin - just distor the facts and hope nobody notices (just like Palin single handedly killed the "bridge to nowhere" project...right). If you want to talk issues, let's see, the economy, Iraq, global climate change, our dependence on foreign oil,....Republicans don't have a clue (and let's just keep drilling doesn't count, sorry). Oh, and nice job playing the race card with Tony Rezko.

to here in the real world: here in st joe, he may not have to raise taxes to give teachers raises, if the main office wouldn't spend an unreal amount of money on sean's catering, dan colgan who only works part time as an advisor, spent over 5k in cabinets for his office. and maybe if the superintendent would make it her job to use the funds the district receives wisely, like provide books for all the students to use for every class they have, instead of wanting to build a new school so those of influential don't have to ride a bus, maybe the teachers could have a raise, kids could have books and everyone will be happy.

I keep asking this simple question and cannot get an answer.

"How are drivers to know the legality of turning right on a red light?" Are there signs that I haven't seen?
