Are you as smart as you think you are?
Lions Club to host annual trivia challenge

The St. Joseph Host Lions Club is issuing a personal challenge to you and your friends. They want to see if you’re as smart as you think you are — or at least smarter than everyone else.

The Lions are hosting the third annual Trivia Challenge Fundraiser, benefitting the Christmas Toys for Girls and Boys toy drive. The fundraiser will be from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at the Huffman Methodist Church, 2802 Renick St.

Those wanting to show off their knowledge can participate in teams of up to 10 people. The cost is $10 per person.

There are 10 categories of questions, which could range from sports to St. Joseph history to TV shows of the 1950s.

“We try to find obscure type of questions,” said past Lions president Roger Unruh. “The questions can be just about anything.”

The Lions also will be collecting new toys and new or used bicycles at the fundraiser. Anyone who brings those items will get free raffle tickets for the prize drawings that night.

Last year, the Christmas Toys for Girls and Boys drive gave toys to almost 700 local children, said project chair Judy Hausman. The Lions Club works in conjunction with the St. Joseph Woodworkers Guild and the St. Joseph Bicycle Club to collect the toys and refurbish the bicycles.

Ms. Hausman said events such as the trivia challenge are a vital part of raising enough money to give every child a toy at Christmas.

“We’re giving away approximately $25 to $30 per child, not including the bicycles,” she said. “We have to do fundraisers to get those funds.”

For more information on the Trivia Challenge Fundraiser, call Mr. Unruh at 233-0881 or Ms. Hausman at 279-1730.
