Move over vampires, the wolf pack is here

New 'Twilight' photos and updates

The second Twilight, "New Moon," movie is in the works, and this week photos (shirtless photos, I might add) of the wolf pack members were released. All I can say is WOW. If there was anything that could make the legions of female Twilight fans even more eager to see the movie, this is it. And even though I think Rob Pattinson is about as sexy as they come, the wolf pack boys give him a run for his money.

In other, and somewhat less exciting, news, the third Twilight movie, "Eclipse," now has a director. David Slade of "Thirty Days of Night" fame is the chosen one.

Please, instead of telling kids to read this mind-rotting drivel, written on the reading level of a 15 year old in 16pt. font, why not turn them onto actual literature? Books like this do not deserve to be published and rate high in the list, with company like Rowling, R.L. Stein and King. Art for the sake of art not marketing for the sake of marketing.

Besides, 'Interview With a Vampire' was much better written, why not tell the pre-teens to read that?

Have you read these books, or is this just your opinion?

I read the second one, New Moon, that my girlfriend left at my apartment. It was either that or sit around on my day off. So I made some coffee, and proceeded. Now I dont claim to be any sort of literary buff, although English Literature my second major in college, so I can claim to of read a couple books in my time.

While I understand that people are welcome to their opinion of literature, it just seems that after reading the (albeit hefty) novel, I could only take vague sexual references to something that sorta sounded like sex but we may never know, and some hunky native American that is jealous. While Im summarizing, a lot, thats about all the book (New Moon in this case) leaves you with.

Normally one complains when a book is made into a movie, generally because movies are meant to make money off of true art, much like books based off of movies are bemoaned; ex. the Star Wars or Star Trek book series. But here is an example where the book was meant to be like a movie trailer and the script was most likely written alongside the book. This is why I am not really impressed with the whole Twilight thing.

And yes, I tease my girl insistently about reading these books, and made fun of Twilight when she dragged me to see it.
