Chik-fil-A fans, it's going to be a long wait

Chick-fil-A is still coming . . . just not now.

The southern chicken eatery should break ground by the spring of 2010, according to Brenda Green, a company spokesperson.

Chick-fil-A submitted plans last year to build a free-standing location at 5303 N. Belt Highway, a prime location at the entrance to the Shoppes at North Village just north of Chili's Grill & Bar.

According to city records, the property owner is listed as Hand Cut Steaks, the parent company of Colton's Steak House. The steak house was initially going to locate at the Shoppes but never broke ground on the project. Chick-fil-A has never broken ground on the project either.

"We wouldn't break ground and just leave a site empty," Ms. Green said. "(The project) has just been moved back."
