St. Joseph's Susan Montee, the state auditor, was named Saturday as one of Missouri's Democratic superdelegates.
Superdelegates go to the Democratic National Convention as unpledged representatives in Missouri's delegation.
The Democratic Party's state committee selected Ms. Montee and Jay Nixon, attorney general and gubernatorial candidate, during its Saturday meeting. The other Democratic statewide elected official, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, had previously been tagged as a superdelegate.
Ms. Montee became one of the state's early endorsers of presidential candidate Barack Obama, announcing her support last summer. She has campaigned for the Illinois senator in Missouri and several other states.
Because of this affiliation, the campaign organization of Hillary Clinton, Mr. Obama's remaining Democratic opponent, had worked to prevent Ms. Montee's designation as a superdelegate.
Neither Mr. Nixon nor Ms. Carnahan has endorsed a presidential candidate.
Missouri will send 88 delegates to the national convention, including 72 pledged and 16 superdelegates. Because of the results of Missouri's Feb. 5 primary, Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton will get 36 pledged delegates each from the state.
The Democratic National Convention will be held from Aug. 25 to 28 in Denver. In 2004, Ms. Montee attended the national convention in Boston as a pledged delegate for John Edwards.
Superdelegates go to the Democratic National Convention as unpledged representatives in Missouri's delegation. Bull Crap!!! She already has her mind made up for Barrack so why do we waist our time voting?
