David Kozminski finished his career at Savannah High School at the nation’s No. 1 debator of all time. He has collected more points than Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey, who also competed in the forensics and debate league as high schoolers.

Mike Kozminski might be the only father who can say this about his son:

“He has greater numbers than Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey,” Dr. Kozminski said.

His son, recent Savannah High School graduate David Kozminski, is No. 1 on the National Forensics League’s all-time points list. Mr. Clinton and Ms. Winfrey competed in the forensics and debate league as high schoolers.

David earned more points than anyone before him largely due to his diversity. Competitors can only win so many points in one category, and David could rake in the points in everything from humorous interpretation competitions to extemporaneous (persuasive) speaking competitions.

“This is something that I’ve been working for quite a bit — since before I was in high school. So it feels pretty awesome,” he said. “It’s certainly gratifying that I am able to leave my mark somewhere.”

His motivation to capture the all-time record was partly due to his desire to outdo his two older brothers. Both were Savannah debate and forensics standouts.

Now, he’s preparing to attend the University of Michigan, where he’ll study economics and biology.

“I’ve been packing up for college and going through my debate trophies and certificates. It’s a pretty sad experience,” he said. “I already miss it. The camaraderie on that team was pretty special.”

But other debaters beware: David’s younger brother, soon-to-be Savannah junior Andy Kozminski, is currently ranked fourth in the nation.
