Yep, a *failure* of the radical Islamic terrorists to successfully carry out a single additional terrorist attack on American soil after 9/11/01. And as this Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I'm thankful for George W. nominating John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.
On federal spending, however, Young Einstein will get no argument from me. What happened to the ink in W's veto pen anyway? Pork! Earmarks! Waste! Those things I won't miss from the current administration.
As for Obama? I will really, really try to find just one positive thing to say about him. For now, Obama's "change" = "deja vu all over again"!

JLS--Please name your information sources. And please. Which political party is in favor of slashing our military to the bone and giving kid-glove treatment to the terrorists at Guantanamo Bay?
Would any of you care to comment on the performance of the House and Senate since Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid became Speaker and Majority Leader, respectively? RedSoxNation, perhaps? Sorry, but the Executive Branch is not the be-all and end-all of our federal government, and I would just point out that for all of President Bush's faults and weaknesses as President, his national approval ratings have consistently been 10 to 15 points higher than the House under Pelosi. He has prevented additional terrorist attacks on American soil from 9/11/01 to the present day. Isn't that something to be thankful for, with Thanksgiving coming up next week?
I don't think we'll have to worry about President Obama's approval ratings approaching anything near what the citizens of Alaska have given Governor Sarah Palin. Especially with Jamie Gorelick and Tom Daschle in the picture.
Did I mention that Don Roach wrote one heckuva good letter? :-) Both of today's letters were good for that matter!
And that goes for NPR's Nina Totenberg too! http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZTV...

And let's not forget that NPR can only survive with the tax dollars of conservative Americans who are involuntarily following Joe Biden's admonition to be "patriotic" in his own highly dubious definition.
Poor Randi Rhodes and Air America. We certainly know that Randi and Al Franken have never, ever, ever engaged in "mean-spirited nonsense"! /sarc

"Lies and smears of the McCain-Palin campaign"? Notice carefully that the writer fails to specifically state even one lie or smear. He then says that we "must move beyond divisiveness" after making further empty accusations against Republicans of spewing out "lies, slander and hate." That's pretty rich.
In terms of my own conduct toward African Americans (and nobodys get a whole lot more conservative than me), I have nothing whatsoever to apologize for. I wish Obama the best in his presidency. Should he make good on passing the so-called "Freedom of Choice" act, and/or confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens, and/or appointing Supreme Court nominees who will make new laws out of whole cloth, I will strenuously oppose him. It's that simple. I don't live in a dictatorship, do I? I still have the right as an American to critique Obama's agenda negatively when it differs from what I think is the ideal. Or have things *changed* in this regard?
And the notion that "extremist right-wing conservatives" have taken over the Republican Party hardly needs any further comment. That kind of talk might fly within the confines of a typical university campus or of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial offices, but in the real world? Uh-uh.
Thank you so much and God bless you for writing this editorial; and may God also richly bless everyone involved with the Second Harvest of Greater St. Joseph. It's always great to see people helping the less fortunate at the local and community levels.
I live far out of your area (maybe my wife and I will be able to relocate to St. Joe next year), but I will be praying for Second Harvest's success.

Bill, I agree wholeheartedly with you! Compared to California, whose state budget is in absolute shambles with a projected annual deficit now at $28 *B*illion and still rising, Matt Blunt will be leaving his office with the state budget in outstanding shape.
I would be very happy to see either Blunt or Sarah Steelman (another Sarah who I think is "the bomb") run for the Senate against Claire McCaskill.
On Palin's a star, but don't expect Blunt to disappear
You mean you actually don't want your whiskey to come from China?! Ha ha ha ha!!! Come on folks, we just gotta engage in a good belly laugh.
I don't think Bobby hates America, just the nasty stuff too many of us are engaging in, plus the fact that we no longer think we're hurting anyone in doing so. And basically telling God, We don't need you! We're doing just fine on our own, you're now irrelevant. Me first! It's all about me!
And oh me oh my! What does the rest of the world think about America? You sure hear that a lot, huh? But you hardly ever hear anyone fretting over what God is thinking of us, not only in America but throughout the whole world.
As a Catholic it's possible that I may have some small theological differences with Mr. Despain; but what I think is completely beyond dispute is that we are living in terribly critical times. Iran is about to get the bomb. It has pledged to destroy Israel.
All the gentleman is saying is that, given this backdrop especially, we need to get right with God. Stop living a me-first hedonistic pleasure-driven lifestyle and start paying attention and showing love to your neighbor, because heaven knows a bunch of federal bureaucrats aren't going to do it. Spreading the wealth? Please.
I happen to live very far away from St. Joe, and the fact this newspaper does publish Mr. Despain's letters, as well as Sondra Snapp's, speaks very well on it. I like seeing a little John the Baptist in Mr. Despain and his letters.
