MichaelH, I think what you're missing is Ken's implication that Bush was spinning (lying) when he said the whole nation cares, because his actions said otherwise.

Judging from the comments, Sam Graves' ad is apparently successful at appealing to his bigoted base. Too bad he doesn't have any actual accomplishments to advertise.
What's new about this? Preachers, priests, bishops push their politics all the time. Good luck getting them to stop. Karl Rove made good use of them.

The racist rhetoric is really being cranked up by the Republican talkers - Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly etc. are pouring it on, trying to destroy Barak Obama before he's even won the nomination. Their goal seems to be to make *everyone* more cynical and mistrustful. It's going to be a long, ugly summer.

As a kid in the 60's I heard there used to be a "sunset" sign posted outside Smithville. It would be interesting to hear about how this came to be in one town but not another - in Plattsburg African-Americans were segregated, but not excluded altogether.
In some other country, we'd call it ethnic cleansing.
