Heritage, to clarify my earlier comment: I understand the News-Press left a voice mail message and an e-mail for Mr. Capell, and he did not respond. When I am saying the reporter should ask him the question, I mean eyeball-to-eyeball. To me, that's the core of invesigative journalism. I don't believe that has been done.
On Efforts to tie Capell to online comments lose steam
Has the News-Press ever directly asked the city manager about this matter? I would think that would be an obvious step in this "investigation." Mr. Capell should be given the opportunity to either confirm, deny or squirm.

In fairness to Kay Barnes, let's not blame her for the Kansas City school disaster. The school district is operated by a voter-elected board, totally indpendent of any city input. Those boards have been dysfunctional for years, unable to either hire or retain a good superintendent.
Incidentally, I believe Barnes and Graves really dislike each other. In most campaigns there is some level of mutual respect. I don't detect it in this one.
On Airport issue spills into final debate
Mr. Morrey's letter and the editorial you reprinted from the Joplin Globe are the most insightful comments I have read on this issue. As I understand it, the casino industry basically wrote this proposal that is now coming before the voters. Wouldn't Hy-Vee and existing grocers love a proposal that would say no more grocery stores could open in Missouri? Upon further review, would the News-Press consider withdrawing its endorsement?

Would the News-Press be so kind as to report who voted which way? It would make the story more complete.
On Commission won't review government system
Vince Capell did not return telephone calls Friday for comment. Did a News-Press reporter ask for a comment Monday? I assume Vince was at the council meeting. How about a follow-up?
On Mayor questions online postings
Congratulations to The News-Press for declining the offer of "media access." To me, that's a mark of real journalistic integrity. If the campaign is going to put restrictions on what questions may be asked, maybe it's best just to keep the spouses at home.

I was not at the debate, but from watching it on television, it sppeared Mr. Graves and Ms. Barnes did not shake hands at the conclusion. I've watched many political debates through the years, live or on television, and this is the first time I have seen the candidates apparently fail to shake hands at the end of the evening. Is civility disappearing?
The caller referring to the energy woes of 1973 might want to know the president then was Richard M. Nixon, Jimmy Carter, admittedly a weak president, did not assume the office until 1977.
