I watched a TV special on raw foods, actually some of them looked good. While I am with suzq I prefer organic because they have a cleaner taste. I dont think I could go without a BLT once in awhile. If your ever up for something different, try totally vegie lasagna...no noodles instead put in zuccini, It is the best thing I have ever eaten. If your in the mood for pizza...pizza hut came out with a all natural pizza made with whole grain dough, organic sauce and all natural cleese. It might be something to try.

On I'll take mine raw

heritage....you make your point about people who actually hover downtown all the time but what about people visiting. while it would do alot of people good to walk 2 blocks but honestly when people are in their car and want to stop in for a cup of coffee or some tickets to the theater or even some natural herbs and spices and they dont want to stop and look at every little piece of art work or go to the salon then they would like a 1/2 decent parking place. All day parking prohibits this and trust me from first hand experience.....if you have even bothered to look 100 South 8th street it literatly has no spaces virtually all day long. Alot of people have time, but alot of people like convenience also. Like I said there are alot of valid points to everyone's side but taking enforcement completely out is not the answer. Meters are not the answer. I heard that feeding meters is illegal, is this true. If so, people would not only be paying for the meter but if they feed it they get in trouble as well. Not only that if it expires they still get a ticket. There is no way to win this battle. I would like to refer back to doglover's comment on Jan5th....he made a very good point. I am done with arguing I realized finally that it is senseless to write about a topic that has been a heated issue for quite sometime and yet everything stays the same. No matter what side you are on.

problem #1: People begin to complain about there being no parking downtown because everyone is parked all day long in the same spot and not moving.
Problem #2: Universal Group has approx 70-80 vehicles that pay for permits in garages, if parking is free...why pay for the permit. That adds 70 vehicles min to the already packed streets.
Add every other permitter in other garages and then you begin the first of many problems.
There simply is not enough spaces downtown to accomidate all the permitters and customers and business owners vehicles. If you would like to go down there and count every space to make sure I am wrong again, please feel free.
......The dollar figure was something I was throwing out there, it was never intended to be a perfect figure. The revenue from the tickets goes twards upkeep on parking garages ect. Including the wages of the parking staff.
>>>I am almost positive there is a "matrix" available for public view. Meter maids make about 22K a year. Same with the attendants depending how long they have worked for the city.
...devon I didnt realize until I went back on the blogs that you work downtown. No wonder you feel so strongly about free parking. I work downtown also. 8th Street in particular, you must not because you would know how I feel about my customers not being able to park by the store because of all day parking. You must work either by the courthouse or by universal group.

FYI: Parking division last year alone generated approximatly 290K in revenue. I don't think the meter maids get paid that much. That isn't including the fee's from the parking garage attendants.

new to joe town....if you read my entire blog : I did say that German was a "nationality". I was simply saying that
it is a slur to a person, place or thing. Just to clear things up for you. Please read everything all the way through before you stand to correct. If that stands grounds for being prejudice then so be it. I do not personally know the man but for writting such a comment in the city paper for everyone to read, well it doesn't make him look so good. I understand some of his points but you must remember that he has a parking lot to park in...that is free from tickets other than what he commented about. His article was about eliminating parking enforcment, and truthfully for someone who doesn't normally get tickets on a day to day basis, I personally don't think that he should have been writting about it in the first place. But hey, that is freedom of press now isn't it. He doesnt understand that eliminating the enforcement piles on a load of other problems. Where there is limited parking in the first place...why would you take away the only thing that is giving people the motive to move thier cars?

while I must apologise devon, I was looking at the signs downtown and they do say 6pm. I am sorry. However, like I said they leave at 4:30pm. So if your time limit is three hours...anyway you do the math you have to park after 1:30pm in order to not get a ticket. I respect all peoples opinions and love to hear them all as well but I dont like for people to make assumptions that are not true about those ladies. They are humans. Like police officers, they too give tickets and you hear no bickering about them because they are doing thier job. The meter maids have been around since I can remember why all the fuss now. Again I am sorry devon for calling you out on the pety 30 minuets and I appologise again.

jafo.....$1.00 an hour must be a really big fine for you to want it lowered in the garages. Common. How about this. They take the 3 remaining city lots downtown that arent manned.. put a booth in them and charges every tom , dick, and harry that enter and leave. All you people who work out at the YMCA..currently park in a city lot. How about 1.00 an hour on top of your monthly fees to workout? Or I got another one lets put in a booth at 8th and felix and charge everyone by the hour no permits allowed and then youll see how nice it is currently. All of your business parkers would be on the street. OMG, I have another brilliant idea how about we all just walk to where we need to go downtown and there wouldnt be a parking problem. HAS EVERYONE LOST THIER MIND? THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN AROUND FOREVER WHY SUCH THE FUSS NOW, JUST BECAUSE SOME RACIST EDITORIAL WRITTER DECIDED THAT HE HAD NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO WRITE ABOUT. LETS ALL HOP ON THE STEVE BANDWAGON AND SEE WHERE IT TAKES US BECAUSE IT CERTAINLY WONT BE FAR. YOU MIGHT LEARN A FEW MORE PUTDOWN REMARKS FOR RACES AND NATIONALITIES. "COMMON SENSE" YOU GOT IT STEVE... WAY TO GOOOO.

devin... I would really like to know what I was lying about. Every bit of the TWO responses I put in here were true. If your implying I do not know the meter maid... your wrong. If your implying that she is not nice, respectful you are yet wrong again. And if you are implying that she is not doing her job you are wrong again. If you are implying that Steve Booher is not racist... try this out for size. A "Nazi" is a putdown for a german nationality. Along with that is the same thing for saying another putdown for a mexican, african american, or a white person. I see no difference in any-one of them. They are all a putdown for some type of race. So If you want to call someone a liar you can call yourself a liar because for one parking is free only after 5:30pm...not 6pm. To be technical the meter maids leave at 4:30pm so do some research. To answer your question about the benefit of enforced parking refer back to 238rs blog. The employees of business's would take all the prime spots leaving customers second hand spots. Take in for instance on 8th street where the pony expresso and A to Z are. That currently is a "model" block that was to be reviewed after 6 months (not enforced). They have no parking spaces available ever and thier customers are certainly not reaping the benefits of all day parking. The post office employees, the salon employees and others are. The meters are certainly an eye sore but you must think it will not eliminate meter maids if thats what your trying to accomplish, afterall who will write the tickets for expired meters? Who will collect the money from the meters? It has already been tried here in Saint Joseph once. It's best to leave things the way they are. If you do not know how to follow the law, then stay off the streets. plain and simple.
